Ardbeg Whisky brings the dark history of Islay to NZ shores

May 2016

Ardbeg Whisky brings the dark history of Islay to New Zealand shores for Ardbeg Night 2016

Ardbeg Day is returning to New Zealand for a fifth year this time as Ardbeg Night, bringing the illicit taste of the special edition Ardbeg Dark Cove from Islay to the four standing Ardbeg Embassies in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch on Saturday 28th May.

A worldwide celebration of all things Ardbeg, whisky connoisseurs are invited to gather at Ardbeg Embassies across the globe to raise a dram to the revered malt whisky on the final Saturday of the annual Islay Whisky Festival Feis Ile in Scotland.

The 200-year-old history of Ardbeg whisky is rooted within tales of a turbulent and murky past, that saw illicit barrels of whisky hidden in caves along the coastline of Islay where the Ardbeg Distillery stands today. This year, Ardbeg brings its dark heritage of smuggling to life with each Embassy hosting an assortment of themed activities with paired canapés, games and prizes for New Zealand whisky connoisseurs to enjoy.

As a nod to its dark and illicit past, Ardbeg welcomes New Zealand whisky enthusiasts to taste the 2016 limited release of Ardbeg’s latest single malt scotch whisky Dark Cove while enjoying the festivities of Ardbeg Day. With less than 600 bottles available in the country, New Zealander’s will be among the first in the world to be able to purchase the special edition bottling from 11am on Saturday 28th May.

“For Ardbeg Day 2016, we want to share the tales of the whisky’s secret past so it seemed fitting that we plunge Ardbeg Day into darkness and celebrate Ardbeg Night. We hope that zealous fans will join the celebrations once again this year and raise a dram to the special edition bottling of Ardbeg Dark Cove” says Senior Brand Manager of Ardbeg Whisky, Ali Campbell.

This year’s limited release of Ardbeg Dark Cove starts with a burst of intense smoky fruit, laced with zest and followed by an explosion of crackling peat, igniting a million flavours on the tongue.

New Zealand Ardbeg Embassies will be amongst the first in the world to unveil the illicit taste of the darkest Ardbeg ever with the release of this limited edition bottling of Ardbeg Dark Cove from 11am on Saturday 28th May. Following the recent announcement of New Zealand’s first on premise Ardbeg Embassy, The Jefferson will be the latest Embassy to join over 140 specialist single malt whisky outlets worldwide as they celebrate their first Ardbeg Day this year.
