Air New Zealand’s 75th exhibition to land in Christchurch

Air New Zealand will take its highly successful exhibition –Air New Zealand 75 Years: Our Nation. The World. Connected to Canterbury Museum in Christchurch in September this year.

More than 650,000 people have visited the exhibition in Wellington at Te Papa Museum and Auckland at the War Memorial Museum.

The free exhibition will feature interactive elements, behind the scenes operational insights to the airline, favourites such as thevirtual reality future cabin, historical collections as well as a display of uniforms through the decades and dress ups for children.

Air New Zealand Chief Executive Officer Christopher Luxon says the airline is delighted to have the opportunity to partner with Canterbury Museum, enabling people to enjoy the exhibition in the South Island too.

“The move to Canterbury will hopefully give more Kiwis the opportunity to visit the exhibition and experience first-hand our airline’s history which is firmly interwoven with the nation’s people, events and milestones.”

Canterbury Museum Director Anthony Wright says the Museum is excited to partner with Air New Zealand to bring the exhibition to Christchurch and Canterbury.

“This is an awesome exhibition which we know will very popular with all our visitors but it will resonate particularly with South Islanders. It will be a fantastic attraction over the summer and should draw record numbers to the Museum.”

Mayor of Christchurch Lianne Dalziel says Canterbury has as rich aviation history so it’s exciting that locals have an opportunity to visit the forthcoming exhibition to reminisce and reflect on 75 years of aviation history.

“The exhibition will also deliver economic benefits to the region as visitors from outside Canterbury take advantage of the opportunity to see the exhibition in the South Island.”

Air New Zealand 75 Years: Our Nation. The World. Connected will close at the Auckland War Memorial Museum on Sunday 22 May 2016 and is scheduled to open at Canterbury Museum on Friday 23 September and run until Sunday 26 March 2017.
