New Zealand’s favourite morning spread revealed

New Zealand’s favourite morning spread revealed

Canstar Blue survey rates jams and fruit preserves

Jam-lovers across New Zealand have had their say on the nation’s favourite morning spread, with a local brand from the South Island ranked number one.

Anathoth Farm beat six other well-known brands of jam and fruit preserves in scoring five stars for taste and overall customer satisfaction. Kiwis also gave it top marks for texture/consistency and variety/range.

Roses and Countdown Homebrand both received five-star ratings on value for money, while Roses was praised for its packaging.

“Many New Zealanders start their day with a generous helping of jam on toast, so we decided it was time to find out which brand is the nation’s favourite,” said Canstar New Zealand General Manager, Jose George. “OK, we’re not talking about a high-risk purchase here, but no one wants to start their day with disappointment. As they say, breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so you’ll also want it to be the tastiest!”

The survey, of 1,540 Kiwis who have purchased and eaten jam and fruit preserves (including marmalades) in the last three months, found that just 14% of consumers are loyal to one particular brand.

“There will be those who simply pick up whichever brand is cheapest or on special when they happen to go shopping, and there will be those who put quality above all else. But the key to keeping customers is to strike the perfect balance between quality and price, and it seems from our results that Anathoth Farm has done exactly that,” said Mr George.

Naturally, the survey found taste (49%) to be the biggest driver of overall customer satisfaction, followed by:

• Value for money: 17%

• Texture/consistency: 15%

• Variety/range: 11%

• Packaging: 8%

“Congratulations to Anathoth Farm for topping the ratings,” added Mr George. “The brand has clearly stuck a chord with New Zealanders who trust it to get their day off to the perfect start.”

About the survey

Canstar Blue commissioned I-view to survey 2,500 New Zealand consumers across a range of categories to measure and track customer satisfaction. The outcomes reported are the results from customers who have purchased and eaten jam and fruit preserves (including marmalades) in the last three months– in this case, 1,540 New Zealanders.
