Motocross Star Desperate To Find Rare Bikes

Motocross Star Desperate To Find Rare Bikes Ahead Of World Record Attempt

Just days away from attempting a new Guinness World Record to land the longest jump on an electric bike, New Zealand freestyle motocross star Luke Smith has met a major setback. Two Stealth electric bikes were stolen from his South Auckland home on Thursday night, one coloured red and with B52 engraved on the side (pictured). Both bikes are rare and one of a kind designs.

Says the Nitro Circus rider, “The thieves broke into the side of my garage, and walked past two new pit bikes to get to the back of the garage to access the Stealth bikes. It seems funny as someone had to know what the bikes looked like? I don't care how or who has it – there are rewards for the person who finds it - I just want it back.

“After being in recovery for months with a heel injury, I got a clearance last week from the surgeon to not use my moon boot and to start walking again. My world record jump attempt is in just over a month, and the ramp is built, I just want to make this dream a reality,” said Luke.
The rider is no stranger to adversity having survived a crash landing on his head which nearly killed him while practising at a friend's Rodney farm in 2009. He was unconscious for 25 minutes and placed in an induced coma eight days, spending four and a half months in hospital. Injuries included frontal lobe damage and brain swelling on the left side. His sense of balance was affected, he suffered short-term memory loss and had to relearn basic motor skills.
Says Luke, “The current Guinness Record is held currently by a German rider who landed a jump at 22.5 metres and I want to try and do it in 30 metres and with twice the height to really show that kiwis can fly!”

If anyone has information on the missing bikes please contact the NZ Police or Luke Smith on 0204 629 436. For media enquiries, contact Lisa Joe.
