Police praise Flaxmere for successful Matariki event

Police praise Flaxmere community for successful Matariki event

Police are full of praise for the way the Flaxmere community and neighbouring suburbs from Hastings came together to celebrate Matariki tonight with around 5,000 people enjoying a whanau event in Flaxmere Park.

The organisers can be very proud of the event which was focused on whanau and had a particular emphasis on no alcohol, drugs or smoking.

There was a huge turn out from local youth who all enjoyed a good night of entertainment.

No major incidents were reported to Police.

One person was taken home after a minor scuffle and some warnings were issued for a breach of the liquor ban outside of the venue.

This was overall a great event, highlighting the community spirit that exists in Flaxmere and Hastings.
