CanSurvive Results in Australia

Kia ora,

You may be impressed by the exceptional results of our local pink dragons Wellington's breast cancer survivor team, CanSurvive, in Australia over the weekend.

As a fitting end to their hugely successful season, Cansurvive Dragonboat Team will be proudly bringing home the silverware from their latest competition.

They return tomorrow from a weekend competing against their sister teams at Kawana Lake on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland.
Hosted by Dragons Abreast Australia the national regatta drew breast cancer survivor teams from all over Australia.

Cansurvive were the only NZ representative team, with paddlers coming from all regions in Wellington, from Kapiti to Wairarapa, and all areas of the Hutt Valley and Wellington city.
The team won both the 200m Grand Final and 200m last boat paddling events. This event has 8 boats starting for continuous racing over 200m, each leg one or two boats at the back of the field drop out, until only 2 are left to paddle the final 200m.

Cansurvive were also the first breast cancer survivor team across the line in the 2000 m race.

The team are most proud of the gains they have made over the season.

Their times on Lake Kawana over the 2 day event were 2 seconds faster than their best times ever.
The women won the 200 metres in just 55.5 seconds which Petone based Coach Jacob de Feijter says us another astounding achievement.

A year ago they were pleased to be under 59 seconds over the same distance. The team keep surprising him with their improvements every season.
