Growing Thirst for Craft Beer And Cider

Success of Gabs Auckland Confirms the Growing Thirst for Craft Beer And Cider

The GABS Beer, Cider & Food Festival arrived in Auckland last Saturday and had fans in raptures. More than 4,800 people enjoyed the unique celebration of New Zealand craft beer and cider at the ASB Showgrounds and the response suggests the event’s popularity and reputation will likely skyrocket in the future.

There were more than 300 beers and ciders on offer, including 75 made especially for the event, and tasting paddles with five sample cups allowed people to try a wide variety. Other event highlights included panel discussions and master classes with brewers and cider makers, circus acrobats, the Ale Capones house band, a silent disco and fantastic Auckland food vendors.

Steve Jeffares, co-founder and Festival Director of GABS said, “For our first year in Auckland, we are exceptionally happy and the response has been overwhelmingly positive. The atmosphere was fantastic and we’re really proud to be promoting the country’s best craft beers and ciders in a fun and responsible way”.

GABS began in 2011 as the Great Australasian Beer SpecTAPular at The Local Taphouse beer bars in Melbourne and Sydney and this year, 32,400 people attended the three events. It is regarded as one of the best beer festivals in the world.

GABS 2017 will take place in Auckland on Saturday June 17, 2017.
