Tim Finn: Nominated for a prestigious Helpmann award

TIM FINN

NOMINATED FOR A PRESTIGIOUS HELPMANN AWARD! AND BECOMES THE FIRST NEW ZEALANDER TO BE NOMINATED IN BEST ORIGINAL SCORE CATEGORY

Iconic New Zealand singer/songwriter Tim Finn has been nominated for a Helpmann Award which will be announced in Sydney on Monday July 25.

Finn has been named in the Best Original Score category for Ladies In Black, a new musical theatre production conceived by Finn, which enjoyed sold out seasons in both Brisbane and Melbourne earlier this year.

In doing so Finn, a founding member of the legendary band Split Enz and acclaimed solo artist, becomes the first New Zealand born artist to be nominated in this category.

The Helpmann Awards is a much celebrated, premier Australian event, recognising achievement and excellence in live performance, musical theatre, contemporary music and more. Ladies In Black has received a total of six nominations including Best Musical and Best New Australian Work. It has received the second highest number of nominations overall and will compete in most of the major categories on the night.

Finn, commenting on his own nomination said, “What started out as simply me picking up a book at the airport and conceiving the idea of Ladies In Black, has grown and developed into something thoroughly satisfying and rewarding. I was fortunate to have the support of the Queensland Theatre Company and to work with such an incredible cast, crew and Director. I’m pleased we could premiere Ladies In Black in Australia, but I hope we get to share it with the rest of the world, including bringing it to NZ.”
