YPT announces the finalists for Matariki Rhythmz 2016

Monday 27th June 2016

YPT announces the finalists for Matariki Rhythmz 2016.

After a competitive heats round at Auckland’s Dorothy Winstone Centre on Saturday 25th June, top 10 finalists will move on to a finals competition.
The finals will be held at the Vodafone Events Centre on Saturday 9th July (7pm – 9pm).

This is the inaugural year of the high schools music and dance competition though YPT has over ten years experience delivering similar events.
Entrants registered from across Auckland and organisers were pleased with the number of bands, duos and soloist musicians who turned-out for the day. The dance aspect of the competition was deferred until next year due to lack of entrants.

The heats were hosted by YPT Youth Ambassadors Olly Coddington and Lavinia ‘Uhila and the judges for the day were Kiwi pop-star K’Lee and bass guitarist Junior Nansen.

Also on the turntables was DJ extraordinaire DJ Poroufessor who rocked the venue between groups. Reverend Mua Strickson-Pua, the chairperson for the Vodafone Pacific Music Awards also blessed the event with a Samoan rap prayer come song, which got the participants fired up at the start of the day.
