Pacific Dance Choreographic Lab Submission Invite

Pacific Dance Choreographic Lab Submission Invite

Pacific Dance NZ announces that the Pacific Dance Choreographic Lab 2016 is now open to Expressions of Interest from Pacific choreographers, directors and artists.

Now in its eighth year, the Choreographic Lab continues to be a platform by which Pacific dance artists are able to experiment, explore, devise and perform in a receptive setting their creative visions.

The Lab offers Pacific dance artists the opportunity to focus on one original work over the period of two-months with mentorship from Pacific Dance NZ and to present that work on stage during the showing of the Pacific Dance Choreographic Laboratory, this year occurring at the end of October.

Many Pacific dance artists have taken part in the Lab both as dancers and choreographers. But the primary focus of the Lab is on the choreographer and original choreographed works.

Some previous choreographic participants of the Lab have been: Justin Haiu, Tupua Tigafua, Jahra 'Rager' Wasasala, Charlene Tedrow, Sesilia Pusiaki, Nita Latu, Katerina Fatupaito and Hadleigh Pouesi to name a few.

Past mentors have also included: Neil Ieremia, Nina Nawalowalo, Louise Potiki Bryant and Iosefa Enari.

Applicants are required to send an expression of interest form including:

• A CV with references

• the concept (what is your dance about?)

• the intended length of the work

• how many dancers (a solo, duet, trio etc)?

An expression of interest form and further instructions can be downloaded from the Pacific Dance NZ website at www.pacificdance.co.nz/choreolab_2016.php

The closing date for acceptance of expressions of interest is Monday, 15th August. All EOI's will be assessed by the Pacific Dance Choreographic Committee and applicants will be informed by the 20th August.
