The Mixtape: story to an audience’s personal soundtrack

Media Release for Immediate Use: Wednesday July 19th 2016
From: Best on Tap

The Mixtape creates story to an audience’s personal soundtrack
Your Mixtape. Their story.

Wiremu Tuhiwai will lead the Best on Tap team to create an improvised show that demonstrates the power of music. For The Mixtape, before each audience member is invited to create a seven-track mixtape dedicated to a special person in their life. As one lucky tape is played, improviser troupe Best on Tap will riff off their songs to navigate the complexities of a human relationship.

Says Tuhiwai, “The great thing about this format is that you get to create and share the story with your fellow players, with the music, with our audience as you bring their mixtape to life. Then share your interpretation of the songs and the story which is the most exciting part of it. Every song will affect people differently, especially when it's fairly well-known songs from the past.”

From a stellar premiere performance at last year’s New Zealand Improv Festival ("Not a ball is dropped, not an offer forgotten. The Best On Tap Mixtape team... are all incredibly talented and highly skilled" – Theatreview ), The Mixtape returns for a three-night run at The Fringe Bar. Jamming along to your song choices, the improvisers of Best on Tap will bring lives, loves, and laughs to the stage in a mixtape that has never been heard or seen before.
