Top Juniors Descend on Rotorua for North Island Age Groups

Over 190 players will descend on Rotorua this weekend to compete in the 2016 North Island Age Groups. With the most entries seen for over 5 years this is sure to be an action packed weekend of squash at the Geyser City Squash Club supported by Ti Street Squash Club.

In the Under 19 Girls Ellie Epke takes the top seed and will be looking to warm up for the 2016 World Junior Championships at the beginning of next month. Kaitlyn Watts and Abbie Palmer will be due to face each other in the Semi-Finals should seedings go to plan, with Anna Hughes rounding out the top 4 players in the Under 19’s.

The Under 19 Boys sees Matthew Lucente taking the top seeding. With the World Junior Boys Team resting before they depart to Poland at the end of next week this leaves the Under 19 title wide open. Lucente will need to get past Tyler Ranger in the Semi-Finals if seedings follow suit and Jayden Millard and Mitchell Kempton will be due to face each other in the opposing semi-final.

Aucklander Gabe Yam is top seed in the Boys Under 17 whilst local Rotorua player Nadia Hubbard will be looking to take the Under 17 Girls title. Hamiltonian Anika Jackson is top seed in the Girls Under 15 with Glenn Templeton from the Katikati club in the Bay of Plenty taking the top seed for the Boys Under 15. Natalie Sayes from Auckland will be looking to add another title after claiming the Under 13 and Under 15 South Island Age Groups title last weekend and she comes in as top seed to the Under 13 Girls event. Mason Smales from the Henderson club in Auckland tops the Boys Under 13 draw. The youngest age group titles will see top seed Freddie Jameson from Northland and Ella Lash from Auckland seeded to take the Boys and Girls Under 11 age group titles respectively.

It is set to be a top weekend of squash and we thank the Geyser City Squash Club for undertaking the mammoth task.

We wish players the best of luck.
