Mozart Feast with Delvan Lin

Mozart Feast with Delvan Lin

Piano Concerto #20 in D Minor Great Mass in C Minor

Sunday 28 August | 5pm | Auckland Town Hall

For their third concert of the season Bach Musica NZ invites five stunning international soloists to celebrate the 260th birthday of the most revered musical Wunderkind of all times: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The two works to be performed were written very late in the composer’s life and undoubtedly belong to his best.

His Concerto No 20 in D Minor has become one of the most popular and it even found high praise from his father. Composed in what the maestro himself called the ‘Demonic Key’, this piece has aroused much enthusiasm through the ages. Pianist Charles Rosen called it ”as much a myth as a work of art [...]”

Auckland-based pianist Delvan Lin, at the age of 16 the youngest winner of the Wallace National Piano Competition, seems the perfect choice to present the composer’s masterpiece. Now 17, the young virtuoso can look back at an impressive number of won competitions, starting only two years after he first began studying piano with Dr. Rae de Lisle at age 6.

In the second half of the evening Bach Musica NZ will present the unfinished Great Mass in C Minor, regarded one of the most beautiful works of the composer.
While scholars and music lovers keep speculating what might have driven the prodigy to keep this work incomplete, you are invited to listen to the glorious sounds that have made it onto paper. Internationally acclaimed soloists will be sopranos Emma Fraser (Opera NZ's 2016 Dame Malvina Major Young Artist) and Anna Leese (Lexus Song Quest winner), tenor Bonaventure Allan-Moetaua and baritone Jonathan Eyers (both winners of recent aria competitions).
