Unitec partners with Auckland Basketball to deliver Glory League

For immediate release

Unitec Institute of Technology is delighted to announce its partnership with Auckland Basketball as the new naming rights sponsor of the Auckland, Waitakere and Counties Manukau secondary school competitions.

Unitec is bringing the innovative Glory League interactive basketball online platform to 10 Auckland courts. Glory League showcases Unitec’s Think.Do approach to learning, by immersing Auckland basketball players in their game. Players will be able to watch videos of their games, track their highlight plays, and apply learnings to improve their play.

In October, Auckland Basketball players will get their first opportunity to use Glory League and start sharing their highlight plays with friends, family and their social networks.

“Unitec is excited to be part of this fast-growing sport and to support Auckland’s basketball community as it expands to become the most participated in secondary school sport in New Zealand,” said Rick Ede, Unitec’s Chief Executive.

“The partnership furthers Unitec’s relationships with Auckland’s secondary schools as it creates pathways for high school players to reach professional level on the court, as well as developing leadership and academic success off the court.

“By using Glory League, basketball players will be able to better their skills by watching and tracking their games with in-platform apps, to identify what they can improve, and putting that into action next time they’re on the court.”

The country’s largest polytechnic will host development sessions for players and coaches from both Auckland Basketball and Harbour Basketball.

“Auckland Basketball is excited for this partnership and the support to install Glory League in 10 of our courts is major for us,” Dave MacKay Auckland Basketball’s General Manager.

“We will also work with Unitec to bring learning and development opportunities to secondary school students through workshops and clinics that display the collective power of both Unitec and Auckland Basketball.

“It’ll be a relationship that continues to grow and looks for win-win developments to benefit our secondary school communities through profiling quality education and learning opportunities.”

In return, Auckland Basketball will help develop Unitec’s basketball teams, including those already running within the Unitec Student Basketball Club.
