New Zealand supporters could not have asked for more this morning as both tandem pairings qualified for medal ride off spots early this morning BRT. Emma Foy and Laura Thompson (sighted pilot) today showed true guts and determination to win silver on the final day of racing at the Rio Velodrome in the Women’s B 3000m Individual Pursuit (3:31.569). The British tandem of Turnham and Hall won in a time of 3:28.050. Earlier in the day Foy and Thompson had qualified second fastest with a time of 3:28.563. New Zealand’s newest tandem pairing of Amanda Cameron and Hannah van Kampen rode off for bronze, finishing 4th with an OVL against British sprint specialists Thornhall and Scott. Cameron and van Kampen rode an outstanding qualification heat in 3:33.298, obliterating their personal best time by 7 seconds. Sophie Pascoe took a commanding lead in Women’s 200m IM SM10 heat (2:27.44). She will go into tonight’s final over 5 seconds fastest than her nearest competitor Aurelie Rivard (Canada). Paralympic debutant Jacob Phillips has qualified for tonight’s Men’s 200m T35 with a personal best time of 28.78. Phillips will contest the final tomorrow.
