Auckland Wind Orchestra - "Stars and Stripes" Concert

PRESS RELEASE

Sick of Hilary and Donald? Come listen to American 50’s music instead!

The Auckland Wind Orchestra is proud to present “Stars and Stripes”, featuring a great selection of American concert band repertoire, on Saturday 8th October at 2pm. The concert will be held at Te Tuhi Centre for the Arts, Reeves Rd, Pakuranga.

Audience members will be treated to the infamous “Stars and Stripes Forever” march along with an eclectic mix of pieces by American composers such as Frank Ticeli and Cole Porter. The works of concert band giants Richard Saucedo and Leroy Anderson will be featured, and the familiar tunes of Frank Sinatra are sure to impress. The outstanding trumpet section of the Auckland Wind Orchestra is featured in “Bugler’s Holiday” and Andy Achmad’s “Typewriter playing” will provide an entertaining element to the afternoon.

AWO Musical Director and Conductor, Oliver Gilmour, says it’s a pleasure to work with such a talented group of musicians. “It’s always a challenge to select repertoire that is accessible to everyone yet will extend the most capable players, and will be appealing to the audience too”. Oliver says there is a wide cross-section of musicians, from tertiary students to retirees in the band. “The AWO is a great example of how music can unite people from a range of ages and backgrounds”.

An afternoon tea will be served during the interval and guests can expect to find some American treats on the menu! Tickets are available on www.eventfinda.co.nz, search ‘Stars and Stripes’.
