New Touring Initiative Brings Award Winning Locals Home

New Touring Initiative Brings Award Winning Locals Home to Bats Theatre

Alacrity Productions, Nuts & Bolts and The Besties Tour presents
The Better Best Possible Album Party That Anybody Has Ever Been Two
(Album Party)
Co-created by Kate McGill and Frith Horan

Winners of the 2015 Auckland Theatre Award for Best Entrance, Kate McGill and Frith Horan are bringing their high-octane, hip hop smash hit Album Party to Wellington’s Bats Theatre from 13-17 December. Album Party is the first work to be selected as part of The Besties Tour – a brand new initiative between BATS Theatre (Wellington) and The Basement Theatre (Auckland) which sees the venues offering support to the best new emerging shows to tour to both cities.

Album Party is an entertaining, tongue in cheek look at the highly contested pop music industry. A concert, a comedy gig and a play all rolled into one, Album Party follows TYLA and Deni$ through the highs and the lows of attempting pop music world domination.

It is the reckoning. We reckon. Welcome to the party to end all other album parties. Long forgotten NZ pop sensations TYLA & Deni$ are back for their ReDempShun tour, reawakening senses and forgetting the past. Die-hard fans, get X-cited because the duos baddest hits are back including ‘Being True To Who You Are’ and the club favourite ‘Gas-in-my-Ass-o-Line.’

Starring born and bred Wellingtons Kate McGill as TYLA and Frith Horan as Deni$, the pair will be supported by a dance posse of Wellington’s freshest hip hop talent from local secondary schools.
McGill and Horan met at Toi Whakaari NZ Drama School, where they formed a desire to make engaging work with a strong purpose. “In Album Party, we wanted to engage younger people in the theatre scene, we wanted to give them something that reflected a bit of themselves and gave them something to ponder,” say the creative duo.

A targeted professional development opportunity for high potential emerging arts practitioners and companies, The Besties Tour offers mentoring and financial assistance for new shows keen to reach a wider audience. A highly popular work, Album Party has performed two successful seasons at The Basement Theatre. McGill and Horan have worked with directors Holly Chappell and Tom Eason, Musical Director Adrian Hooke and musician Oswell Didsbury to create this original show, and are currently refining the work for a new space and audience.
