Holder rallies behind friend for once in a lifetime trip

Holder rallies behind friend for once in a life time opportunity

David Holder with Mykal Mayne

New Zealand Rally Champion David Holder is throwing his weight behind a campaign to see a special friend of his take on the trip of a life time.

When he is not tearing up back roads around New Zealand, Holder keeps busy part time as a support worker for Mykal Mayne, a 13-year old who suffers from Spastic Dystonic Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy.

"Technically being his support worker is one of my day to day jobs, but it's honestly so much more than that. Some days you can't help but smile at the things he says, and others you feel the impact of the quality of life he's got ahead of him,” says Holder.

"It's the little things in life that we take for granted, normal everyday stuff that Mykal simply can't do on his own.”

Aside from his physical disability, Mykal has an active mind and one of his big passions in life is Lego. When Mykal came up with an idea of creating a video to help fund Holder’s rallying career, the 27-year old was quick to twist the idea into raising funds to take Mykal on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Legoland and Florida, and has created a ‘Give a little’ page to help raise the $15,000 required for the overseas adventure.

"I've been lucky enough to have a lot of help from a lot of people to help achieve my dreams, I'd love to help make Mykal's dream come true!

"My theory is if a bunch of people can afford to miss their daily coffee and put $5 towards this we will make Mykals dream come true.”

Already some of Holder’s long term supporters are in behind the project, with Stadium Finance the first to back the project.

"It's great to have the support of my major sponsor Stadium Finance, Tony and the team have always supported helping people live their dreams so it's great to see the Good Sports get behind something that's quite different from their traditional motorsport support."
