Musicians Union calls on St John to settle dispute

2 December, 2016

MEDIA RELEASE

Musicians Union calls on St John to settle industrial dispute

The musicians’ union, E tū, is urging St John to settle an ongoing wage dispute with its ambulance staff.

Ambulance workers have issued strike notices today of an events ban that could disrupt summer events where E tū members will be performing.

E tu represents a number of musicians and performers, including the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and individual musicians.

E tū Industry Coordinator Jill Ovens says St John staff are a long-standing fixture at such events, ensuring the safety of the crowd and that events run smoothly.

"We appreciate the work ambulance professionals do every day to keep event-goers safe," says Jill.

"Our members support this action, but we want to see the matter resolved. It would be a shame for families to miss out on cultural events this summer.”
