KARTING SISTERS COMPETING IN MACAU THIS WEEKEND

Kiwi karting sisters Madeline and Ashleigh Stewart from Wellington are in Macau this week, preparing to compete at the annual CIK-FIA Asia-Pacific KZ Championship meeting this weekend.

Madeline is entered in the 6-speed/125cc KZ Championship, where she will be one of 29 drivers from Asia, Australia and France, Italy and Spain competing for the 2016 Asia-Pacific title.

Ashleigh will compete in the X30 (direct drive/125cc IAME engine-based) class at the round of the Asian Karting Championship also being contested at the meeting.

"We are running as part of the Tom Williamson Motorsport team out of Australia," explained the sisters' father and team manager Tony before they flew out. "It is the second year that the team has taken drivers to this event and, as well as Madeline, they are running Joshua Fife who has raced KZ2 in Europe this year, and Macauley Jones who will come fresh to the event from competing in the final round of the Dunlop Supercars Series at Olympic Park in Sydney.

"Madeline is looking to gain some more experience in KZ ahead of a full programme next year and Macau gives her a great chance to experience the full CIK format that is used for premier events worldwide."

"For Ashleigh it will be her first time driving an X30 class kart and with a big field of local drivers and only two practice sessions to learn the engine, the track and the Yokohama tyre she is also looking to gain experience racing in a different type of event."

The sisters' Macau entry caps a big year for Kiwi karters on the world scene with Madeline now the third New Zealand driver to enter a bona fide CIK-FIA Championship event after Marcus Armstrong and Daniel Bray who contested the CIK-FIA World KZ championship event in Sweden in September.

Practice at the CIK-FIA Asia-Pacific KZ Championship meeting begins today (Wednesday) and continues tomorrow (Thursday) before qualifying and the first heat races on Friday, the rest of the heats on Saturday, and the Pre Final and Final on Sunday.
