Topp Twins the top act for 80th Wanaka A&P Show

Adored Kiwi entertainers the Topp Twins have been announced as one of the major drawcards for next year’s Wanaka A&P Show.

The highly anticipated two-day Show, which attracts 40,000 people to the Wanaka Showgrounds each year, is regarded as the South Island’s premier lifestyle, agricultural and pastoral event. Jools and Lynda Topp are set to kick off the Show’s 80th anniversary celebrations on March 10-11, 2017.

The duo first performed at the event in 2010 and Wanaka Show coordinator Jane Stalker says she is delighted they will return to Wanaka to celebrate the Show’s important milestone next year.

“Not only are the Topp Twins fantastic, family-friendly talent, they are true Kiwi icons and always up for a great time –a perfect fit for the Wanaka Show,” she says. “Jools and Lynda and their hilarious alter-egos will be in fine form and we are thrilled to be welcoming them back to Wanaka once again.”

The Topp Twins will be entertaining Show-goers in the morning and afternoon on both days of the event, on the Radio Wanaka main stage.

“The Wanaka Show is in a beautiful setting by the lake and there are lots of fabulous things that happen there –we’re very excited,” says Lynda Topp. “We’re bringing all the characters with us – Ken and Ken, and Camp Mother and Camp Leader, and we’ve got some new songs too. We’re also bringing our American cowboy friend to show him what a real A&P show is like.”

The Topp Twins’ on-stage antics will be complemented by the Show’s classic drawcards, such as equestrian and livestock events, the Beef + Lamb NZ Golden Lamb Awards (also known as the Glammies), sheep shearing and wood chopping demonstrations. More than 400 trade stalls are also set feature, along with a dedicated Kids Zone and Life & Style marquee. The famous novelty Jack Russell race also returns in 2017.

“Next year’s Show is shaping up to be our best yet – our jam-packed entertainment lineup is extraordinary and fitting for our 80th anniversary,” adds Stalker. “There will certainly be something that appeals to people of all ages and interests – it’s a fantastic two days out for the whole family.”

The Wanaka A&P Show is held at the Wanaka Showgrounds on Ardmore Street – gates open 8am-5pm on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 March. Tickets can be purchased at the gate for $15 per adult for a one-day pass or $20 for a two-day pass. A youth pass (13-17 years) is $5 for both days, and children aged 12 and under are free.
