Award-winning Canadian cabaret performer makes NZ debut
Shirley Gnome: Taking It Up The Notch: Award-winning Canadian cabaret performer makes New Zealand debut
Armed only with her
sparkling guitar and sharp wit, internationally acclaimed
Shirley Gnome will sing you shameless, obscenely honest
songs about sex and human nature that will have you in
stitches. Provocative truths go down smooth with her
incredible musicianship.
Shirley takes to the stage looking like a mix of Dolly Parton and Joni Mitchell. But don't let her wholesome appearance and her folksy charm fool you – she holds no punches with her taboo observations and explicit language. Yet with an unbelievably beautiful voice and cleverly constructed songs, her musical prowess is worth the price of admission alone. Add to that themes of social satire, vulnerability, and pop parody and you get her unique mixture of profanities and profundities.
Hailing from Canada, the multi award winning, cabaret comedian has been wowing critics and audiences alike across North America, United Kingdom and Australia with her cult musical comedy shows. Recently signed to Canada’s largest independent record label, 604 Records, Gnome’s fourth album is slated for release in 2017. With her newest hour of songs, she excitedly makes her New Zealand debut with BATS Theatre.
With only six nights of performances, Shirley Gnome: Taking It Up The Notch will be a hot ticket. It will be one of the most unapologetic and hilarious shows at NZ Fringe this year. Bookings recommended.
