Westpac Rescue Helicopter team up with Heineken Urban Polo
Auckland’s Westpac Rescue Helicopter are thrilled
to team up with the Heineken Urban
Polo
“Auckland’s Westpac Rescue Helicopter
are thrilled to receive support from this great new event.
The team at Heineken Urban Polo have helped raise over
$30,000 for the service before a single hoof hits the grass.
This valuable funding goes directly to our busy summer of
operations and of course helps keep us top of mind when we
are doing the most work out there in the community. With
another year flying over 1,000 missions last year, we still
need all the support we can get from the community.”
Nathan Turley - Events Manager ARHT
The Heineken Urban
Polo taking place on February 25th at Shore Road Reserve,
Remuera is shaping up to be a not-to-be-missed Summer
fixture in any Aucklander’s calendar. The idyllic setting
of Shore Road Reserve overlooking the stunning Hobson Bay,
and the unmistakeably Auckland landmark of Rangitoto
dominating the skyline, provides the perfect natural
backdrop to the sporting and musical prowess of the Heineken
Urban Polo.The Heineken Urban
PoloinAucklandandWellingtonwill includetwo
adrenaline-filledgames of polo at each city tournament for
the first half of the day, before the action is taken off
field to the stage for the musical remainder of the event.
These unique events are modernising the traditional polo
events previously played in this area by adapting the game
and adding premium musical acts to create an exciting day
combining a polo tournament and musical concert.
This
beautiful area of Auckland has not played host to a polo
event in over a century. In fact, the last polo match is
recorded to have taken place 110 years ago. At this time
Remuera was home to the Remuera Polo Ground. In the last
documented match Remuera defeated Cambridge to win the
Auckland Polo Association Cup. David Edgar, Chair of the New
Zealand Polo Association has confirmed that “the Remuera
Club was formed in 1901 by Dr AG Maitland and this match was
likely played at the Dilworth Estate, Market Rd”. In the
article documenting this match it is recorded that ‘the
secret of polo success was “ride hard and keep the ball
rolling”, we have no doubt that this sentiment will be
echoed in the skill exhibited by the International polo
stars competing in the Heineken Urban Polo.
The last
match in Remuera is described to have been a luxurious and
prestigious event and we intend to continue this tradition
through the hospitality options available at the Heineken
Urban Polo events. The exclusivecorporatemarquees are now
sold out and the lucky few who managed to secure them will
bein for a treat as they are set to enjoy premium cuisine
accompanied by the finest wines and champagne all from the
comfort of their own luxury marquee located in the best spot
to view the sporting and music action of the day.
The
Heineken Urban Polo will be coming to both Auckland 25th and
Wellington 11th in February 2017.
There are still
limited tickets left for the Auckland and Wellington
events.
