The Future is Here

This coming Friday and Saturday, March 3/4, sees Hamilton CBD host to the ever Future City Festival, an inner city music festival featuring underground sounds from around the world.

In total 27 bands and artists from as far away as New York City, Montreal and Osaka. The festival, organised by not-for-profit independent music group Hamilton Underground Press. The festival will be played out at two venues - Nivara Lounge and Creative Waikato.

Festival curator Rob Shirlow said "These type of events happen in most other large cities in this country, and we felt the time was right for Hamilton to host one. Many of the bands are unknown, but each one is incredible, and the mix of genres is very varied. New York native Alexa Dexa plays a soulful blend of electro pop using beats and children's toy instruments to accompany her incredible voice. It's the type of music you would hear on most radio stations. As well as a host of Hamilton bands, there's indie pop from Auckland bands Skux, Carb on Carb, and Two Cartoons, and then you have the heavier side of things, such as Old Loaves, fresh from supporting global metal icons Neurosis, and local punk band Wizz Kids who have just returned from a tour of Australia. There really is something for everyone."

In addition to the main event across the two venues, there will be a free stage running at Embassy Park (Riff Raff Statue) from 5-8pm on Saturday, featuring a range of bands and solo performers.

There's no doubt about it, the coming weekend promises to be one to remember for music Hamilton music fans.

Future City Festival runs from 6pm-midnight on Friday March 3, then 1.30pm-midnight on Saturday March 4th. Tickets cost just $35 (covers both days) and available online at undertheradar.co.nz. Limited one day tickets will be available on the door.
