Coastella Music Festival Delivers

Over 2600 people attended the second Coastella Music Festival at Southward Car Museum on Saturday, which delivered an unrivalled day of sun and music, which saw families, locals, visitors, hipsters and artists, all united for a day of colourful magic on the coast.

The audience included 500 kids, and the total audience was more than a 300% increase on 2016’s audience. Over 30 acts performed throughout the day: the Irish guests ALDOC, Seamus Begley Trio and Mundy, had audiences dancing jigs and tapping their toes, The Phoenix Foundation played a spectacular set to a packed dance floor, French for Rabbits received a standing ovation and Kāpiti locals RAW Collective rocked the packed after party. The innovative Tiny Town was a hit on its debut outing, packed with audiences all day with a queue to experience the intimate live music setting, and audiences buzzing as they came out.

As well as the music, the event was alive with performance and art, with a full ukulele and luthier workshop, circus performers and stilt walkers throughout the day, and the Palet Maze (by Conrad Coom) and The Inequality Seesaw (by GoldFish Creative) keeping the kids entertained all afternoon and into the evening.

Involvement from kids extended to the stage as well, with local kids from the Community Music Initiative performing with The Nukes, and local high school bands The Fold and Bullseye getting audiences cheering.

With a sustainable focus, the festival is proud to report that only four bags of rubbish went to landfill, the rest was recycled. It’s clear the word has got out that Coastella is an unmissable day out for all the family, and the date has already been set for the next festival on 24th February, 2018 at Southward Car Museum.
