The Wilson Sisters are back!

The Wilson Sisters are back!

Almost one year on from their first camp held in Masterton, the Wilson sisters are heading back to the Wairarapa to offer the ultimate equestrian experience and an opportunity to learn more about horse welfare and their experiences with all things equine!

The girls have been busy organising as many opportunities as possible for the local community to come and meet them and learn about their work. From their CopRice Showtym Camp to a one-off evening to meet and greet with the TV stars, organised through PGG Wrightson and Eastwood Motor Group, they will be making Masterton their home throughout the beginning of April!

The three sisters, Kelly, Amanda and Vicki shot to fame whilst screening their hit TV show ‘Keeping Up with the Kaimanawas’ on TVNZ. Since then, they have gained a huge following from both horsey and non-horsey people throughout the country.

Their knowledge and experiences working with wild and difficult horses as they were growing up has stood them in good stead in the equine world. Last year, they travelled throughout New Zealand and offered their first ‘on-the-road’ tour offering some fantastic opportunities for our local children to experience what they had growing up, not only from a ridden perspective, but also the sense of adventure they instilled within our children.

Local parent, Elle Isaac, whose 10 year old daughter, Romy Ifill, attended the camp last year said she has been thrilled with the confidence that Romy has developed both on and off the horse since

the camp.

“My daughter took part in the camp last year at Solway Showgrounds and had the most amazing time! Not only did she learn a lot about horse welfare, but also learned a lot about herself.”

“The first lesson with Kelly, saw her climb upon an old tree stump whilst riding her pony; something she was very nervous about doing. Once she overcame her fear and climbed upon the tree stump, she felt untouchable and you could see the confidence between her and her pony grow in an instant. By the end of the camp, not only had she achieved everything she had wanted and more with her pony, but she also became a much more confident child on a day-to-day basis.”

“The sense of adventure created in her after taking part in bush whacking, human pyramids and a lot of team building type activities the sisters put on in between riding was incredible and I would highly recommend this camp to all parents for the experiences in which they have and the memories that they make.”

Since launching their original Showtym camps at their property in Northland, the Wilson Sisters have been keen to make learning more accessible and affordable for riders, hence why they have partnered with CopRice to provide their Nationwide Tour.

“We are excited to be heading back down to Masterton again this year,” said Kelly. “We had such a fantastic response last year with a sell-out number of children and adults taking part. These camps are the perfect opportunity to try new things and it is a pleasure to watch the confidence of both horses and riders develop.”

“Vicki will be flying into Masterton especially for the camp - straight from Kentucky where she is the first New Zealander (and English style trainer) ever to be selected to compete in ‘Road to the Horse’, the World Championships of Colt Starting.”

At this stage, there are still a few spots available at their camp, but the Wilson Sisters are encouraging families to book their spots early to avoid disappointment.

The camp takes place from the 3rd April – 6th April at Solway Showgrounds. For more information, please visit www.wilsonsisters.nz or email info@wilsonsisters.nz

In addition to their camps, PGG Wrightsons and Eastwood Motor Group have also organised an exclusive evening with not one, but all three sisters at Rathkeale College on Sunday 2nd April.

This will provide an opportunity for the public to not only hear all about their fun and entertaining adventures with the wild horses and their new venture, Team WS, but also a chance to meet with the girls in person.

Team WS is a new and exclusive community of owners, brought about by the Wilson Sisters, aiming to produce a competitive team of horses unrivalled in New Zealand.

Angela Parkinson from PGG Wrightson said that they are aiming for this event to be even bigger and better from the one they held last year.

“Kelly came down last year to talk about some of the adventures she has participated in with the wild horses and it was a huge success. It was so popular, with a sell-out crowd, that we ended up having to put on an extra night!”

“This year we are fortunate to have all three sisters coming down and taking part and so we have anticipated another big turnout and so decided to hold this at Rathkeale College, which seats up to 700 people!”

Speaking alongside the Wilson Sisters, to tell us all about the successes and roller coasters of event riding, will be top eventer Jock Paget, a New Zealand equestrian who won a bronze medal in Team eventing at the 2012 Summer Olympics. In 2013 he became only the second rider to win the Badminton Horse Trials on debut after fellow New Zealander Mark Todd!

Gary Allan, from Eastwood Motor Group said he was very keen to help with the event and support such a great evening for our community to attend.

“Having been involved in the event last year, we were very keen to help support the event again. Being able to offer experiences like this at a much-discounted rate, for our local children and families is very rewarding.”

To purchase tickets to this fabulous event, which will be held at 7pm on 2nd April (doors open at 5pm), tickets can be purchased via PGG Wrightson in Masterton, Martinborough, Carterton, Eketahuna, Waipukurau and Hastings branches. Please note tickets can be booked over the phone also. Adults are $15 and children are $10 (under 12).
