ANTARCTICA - while you were sleeping
URBAN ICEBERG
Auckland Arts Festival is underway and in just two weeks our Museum will transform into a life-size Antarctic iceberg for the world premiere of ANTARCTICA: while you were sleeping.
A cinematic collision of nature and architecture on an epic scale, for three nights the Museum’s iconic building will become the canvas for a full-scale 360-degree projection of an Antarctic iceberg.
Visual artist Joseph Michael has collaborated with composer Rhian Sheehan to create an immersive multi-sensory installation that translates the scale and awe of Antarctica. Listen to the ice crack and drip, creak and groan as colossal sections of ice calve off, set to a dramatic sound score.
A free, fully immersive visual and audio experience for an audience of all ages, while you were sleeping is a New Zealand first, and the largest project of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. Bring a blanket and enjoy food from one of the food stalls on-site.

In partnership with the Deep South Challenge, join us for an evening of debate as our expert panel discusses whether we are working together effectively to both reduce and adapt to climate change.
Broadcaster Noelle McCarthy chairs the panel for the evening featuring the artist behind ANTARCTICA - while you were sleeping, Joseph Michael, Director of the Deep South National Science Challenge Dr Mike Williams, and Associate Professor Sandy Morrison.
