Celebrities commit to Shave for a Cure fundraiser at Farmers

Hair will be flying at Farmers St Lukes store next Thursday March 23rd from 12-2pm, when a number of New Zealand celebrities show off their hairdressing talents for Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand’s (LBC’s) iconic Shave for a Cure campaign.

The event, which will be hosted by TVNZ’s Breakfast host Hilary Barry, will see Moses MacKay from Sol3 Mio brave a shave to raise funds for the 6 kiwis diagnosed with a blood cancer every day.

Celebrity ‘hairdressers’, including Dame Valerie Adams and comedian Paul Ego, will be supporting those brave enough to shave by being at the other end of the clippers. Courageous shavees will include eight-year-old Saul Dellow from Glen Eden who has grown his hair so long it’s now past his bottom!

Farmers, who are long-term supporters of LBC, are holding 19 Community Shave events over Shave week from March 20 – 26. The public can show their support by coming to these events, purchasing a ‘slap band’ with a minimum $5 donation or electing to donate a sum of their choice when paying for their purchase at Farmers.
Michael Power, Farmers’ Chief Financial Officer, says Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand is a charity close to the heart of the company’s 4000 staff.

“Shave for a Cure is a campaign that all our stores get behind each year. We know a number of our staff have been personally affected by these diseases, and alongside organising events and fundraising instore many of them take up the challenge to shave their heads to show solidarity.”

Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand’s CEO Pru Etcheverry, says fundraising from Shave for a Cure is vital as LBC receives no government funding.
“Each year we are so incredibly grateful for the support from Farmers’ customers for Shave for a Cure. The energy, enthusiasm and creativity that the staff put into organising events is extraordinary and donations received from the public help raise valuable funds to invest in research into these diseases.

We’re also very thankful to people like Hilary and the other celebrities giving up their time to help us raise awareness of our work.”
