Australian storyteller Jon Bennett returns to NZ with trilogy of shows
Australian award-winning storyteller Jon Bennett returns to New Zealand shores this April with a string of dates showcasing his breadth of shows. Bennett is a world renowned comedic storyteller and 6 X JUST FOR LAUGHS AWARD nominee. Jon’s comedy career began in his homeland Australia, and after 14 years in the business he is now known as one of the most prolific storyteller-comedians touring the world.
He has received multiple 5 star reviews in reputable publications worldwide and won awards such as Funniest Show Award in the London Fringe, Critics Choice Award for Best Solo Show at the Orlando Fringe and a Golden Gibbo Award nomination at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. He has performed at a number of prestigious festivals such as the Edinburgh Fringe, Melbourne International Comedy Festival and Just For Laughs in Montreal and is a regular at renowned The Moth in NYC.
Pretending Things Are A Cock
Pretending Things are a Cock is the product of Bennett’s three years of global wandering, and combines the artistic, phallic-filled photographic display with hilarious and surprisingly heart-wrenching tales from his life. A unique stand-up experience, PTAAC is a hilarious, but also strangely affecting pot-holed journey into the idiosyncratic world of Jon Bennett.
Funniest Show Award (London Fringe), Pick of the Fringe Award (Boulder/Calgary/San Diego/Winnipeg Fringes), Selected for Just For Laughs – Zoofest.“The funniest show at the fringe. Don’t miss it. ½” - Calgary Herald
My Dad’s Deaths
Jon Bennett’s dad always wanted his son to be an author… like Banjo Patterson. This is the story of a strange relationship between a comedian and his extremely conservative father; a man who has died… more than once.
Best in Venue Award & Best Solo Show Award (Orlando Fringe), Selected for Just For Laughs – Zoofest, Best Comedy Award nominee (Perth Fringe World)“Armed only with self-deprecating wit and memories, Bennett reminds us that ordinary people lead extraordinary lives. ” - The Sunday Mail (AUS)
Fire In The Meth Lab
Dear Brother,
How’s jail? How many cigarettes does it cost for a picture of a naked lady? Are you getting really strong? I’ve written a show about you, is that ok? You’re in jail so you can’t really say no. Love from your little brother, Jon
Renowned Australian storyteller Jon Bennett tells the amazingly sordid and bizarre story of his brother’s life. A sometimes shocking and chaotic tale, Bennett recounts his brother’s experiences with both charismatic hilarity and heart-warming, poignant reflection.
Best Performance (Victoria Fringe), Sell Out Show Award & Audience Best in Venue Fringe Award (Orlando Fringe), Sold Out Season (Brisbane Comedy Festival). “This show will make you laugh, even after you’ve left the venue. ”- Vue Weekly (CAN)
