Kiwi poetry will be showcased in world-renowned literary journal Atlanta Review, to be launched in Georgia, United States, in April 2017, in a special New Zealand edition.

During Atlanta Review’s 22-year history, many well-known poets have appeared in its pages, including Nobel Laureates Seamus Heaney, Gunter Grass and Derek Walcott.

Putting the collection together, Philippine-born guest editor Ivy Alvarez says, “I am delighted the voices I wanted represented in this edition will receive more recognition.

“I discovered so much exciting new work from the general call for poems.

“While selections were difficult, I was heartened to receive so many poems to consider.

“These poems gave me such a compelling picture of Aotearoa.”

Alvarez received an invitation to travel to the U.S. for Atlanta Review’s launch on Saturday, 15 April 2017, 3pm, at the Clary Theater, Georgia Tech. She reads her poems alongside award-winning poet Ocean Vuong.

Ivy Alvarez became established both as a writer and editor during her time in Australia and the UK, before moving to Auckland in 2014.

She has previously appeared at the Auckland Writers Festival and the Oxford Literary Festival, and is the current editor of New Zealand Poetry Society’s magazine, a fine line. She is also the author of several collections, most recently The Everyday English Dictionary and the verse novel Disturbance.
