Bringing A Mem Fox Book To Life

3rd April 2017

Multi-Award Winning Theatre Company Brings A Mem Fox Book To Life

Internationally acclaimed and home grown live children’s theatre company, Little Dog Barking is playing Wellington, Lower Hutt & Paekakariki during these upcoming April school holidays.

Founding Director Peter Wilson, established Little Dog Barking in 2010. Peter’s vision for the company is to create innovative and original theatre productions for Early Childhood and Lower Primary School audiences.

Winners of the Outstanding Theatre Award at the 2014 Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Best Foreign Drama Award at the Asian Pacific Puppet Festival in Chengdu, China, the company will again be touring to both National and International festivals during 2017.

Wellington audiences will be treated to two productions by the company. Papershaper plays at BATS Theatre in Wellington, Little Theatre in Lower Hutt and the St Peter’s Hall in Paekakariki in April along with a season of their new piece Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge at BATS.W

Papershaper – Short and simple, yet rich with emotion and humour. What happens to that little man on the side of the rubbish bin when no-one is looking? He creates a whole universe out of people’s paper, with a paper sun, paper trees, paper flowers and paper butterflies. When a long-faced but cheerful man visits the park for a picnic, the two starts out as opponents, but soon become playmates and friends.

This wonderful and colourful production is suited for children aged 3 – 10 years old, their parents, caregivers, grandparents and anyone that is young at heart. With utmost care and skill the company weaves together a magical world that will introduce children to the true beauty that theatre is capable of expressing.

Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge - Adapted by Peter Wilson and Kenny King from the book by Mem Fox, a book that is so well loved by young children and now a magical stage play that deals so powerfully with childhood and age, with memory and with relationships. A play that uses the magic of storytelling, puppetry and live performance. A wonderful work for both children and adults.

Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge is just four years old, he lives next door to a rest home for old people. He knows all the residents very well but his favourite person is Miss Nancy Alison Delacourt Cooper because she has four names, just like him.

Directed by Lyndee-Jane Rutherford and music by Stephen Gallagher, Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge is a warm and caring piece which brings together the young and the old. Suitable for ages 3 – 10 years old and their companions.
