Smokefreerockquest 2017 – Auckland heats results

Smokefreerockquest 2017 – Auckland heats resultshttp://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/CU1705/S00246/smokefreerockquest-2017-auckland-heats-results.htm

It was a big weekend for young Kiwi music with around 100 bands competing at the North Shore, Auckland Central and Manukau Smokefreerockquest heats at the Dorothy Winstone Centre.

Smokefreerockquest Founder and director Glenn Common said the level of performance at the heats seems to keep going up every year as entrants get more support for contemporary music from their schools, make use of on line resources and have role models who have used Smokefreerockquest as a springboard to success.

“Between now and the regional final their preparation work is part of the process that makes Smokefreerockquest and Pacifica Beats such valuable learning experiences for young people,” he said. “The top bands from each of the heats going on to their final need to practise hard, craft their set, get their supporters rallied and make good use of networking opportunties and social media to promote themselves and their achievements. For a lot of students these steps can be part of their NCEA assessments.”

Founder and director Pete Rainey said the nationwide event is stoked to have Smokefree sponsorship for the 28th year in a row.

“This is New Zealand’s biggest live music youth event so it’s a great platform for the message that smoking has no part in the lives or future of today’s young people,” he said. “We see some awesome results on stage because of all the hard work the bands do off stage and smoking quite simply doesn’t fit into this.”

Smokefree Sponsorship SFRQ: Smokefree has been supporting young Kiwis to showcase their music for 27 years. Thousands of artists have hit the stage and many have gone onto to do epic things on national and global levels. Being the naming right sponsor of Smokefreerockquest gives another platform to show the benefits of a smokefree lifestyle and how smoking really doesn’t have a place in young people’s bands or world. Smokefree recognises that today’s musicians and artists will play a huge role in shaping New Zealand’s future as we head towards the goal of a Smokefree 2025.
