All Blacks Apprentices named

A 10-year-old boy from County Kildare, Ireland and a 13-year-old girl from Nelson, New Zealand have received the call up of a lifetime to join the All Blacks as apprentices as they prepare to take on Manu Samoa in Auckland next Friday 16 June.

The newest squad members Colm Moran (Ireland) and Brooklyn Logan (New Zealand) were chosen from close to 2,000 entrants following an extensive global search by Air New Zealand and New Zealand Rugby to fill the two volunteer positions, including job ads in international newspapers, job seeker websites and on social media.

The two apprentices will be winging their way to Auckland next week with Air New Zealand to commence their official duties as All Blacks Apprentices including:

• assisting in the setting up of the team’s Captain’s Run on the day before the game before joining the team for lunch.

• attending an exclusive Q&A session with All Blacks Head Coach Steve Hansen and players.

• helping set up the All Blacks’ coaches box, sideline and bench on game day.

• overseeing the game from their own spot on the sideline.

One lucky apprentice will also be responsible for running the ball onto the field for kick-off.

Colm Moran was nominated by his sister Clodagh who lives in Auckland. Clodagh submitted a video of her younger brother performing the haka and described him as being ‘obsessed’ with the All Blacks.

“I’m so excited to visit New Zealand and see my sister – we’ll be staying at the team hotel and helping them prepare for the big game. I can’t wait to see the haka performed live!” says Colm.

Brooklyn Logan submitted a video of herself showcasing her rugby career which started at age five. She currently plays for Waimea College First XV despite being just 13 and wants to play for the Black Ferns.

“I couldn’t believe it when I got the call up. I’ve been hooked on rugby my whole life and to have the opportunity to spend some time with my heroes and go behind the scenes is a real privilege and I can’t wait,” says Brooklyn.
