Trombone sextet tours to Invercargill

Trombone Evolution is a concert of music for trombone ensemble that challenges, triumphs and entertains. The concert is at 7:30pm on Saturday 29 July, in the Victoria Rooms at the Civic Theatre on Tay Street, Invercargill. Tickets available from ticketdirect.co.nz or door sales on the night.

This concert features six professional trombonists - Douglas Cross, Tim Sutton, Mark Close, John Gluyas, Ben Zilber and Grant Sinclair (originally from Invercargill) - who are part of Auckland-based trombone octet, Aucktet. Formed in 2014, Aucktet creates entertaining and unique concert experiences that aim to redefine an audience’s preconception of brass instruments.

Works that will be performed in the concert include: Bolos by Folke Rabe, Toccata by Frescobaldi, Etude in the style of Bruckner by Enrique Crespo, Back to the Fair (work based on Scarborough Fair) by Reichenbach, Tuba Mirum from Mozart’s Requiem, and Suite from 'Maria de Buenos Aires' by Piazzolla,

On Friday 28 July, three of the trombonists are running a school concert and workshop for high school students, to be held at Southland Girls High School.
