Local Café Owner Frank Hsu Enters 4th Barista Championship

Wellington, New Zealand - 13 August 2017- Frank Hsu will present his signature coffee beverage to the judges at Meadow Fresh NZ Barista Championship over the weekend of August 19 to 20, 2017.

After having participated in three barista competitions and placing 2nd in the NZ Barista Championship Regional 2009, Frank is hoping to make a name for himself this year at Meadow Fresh.

Held at L’affare HQ & Roastery on 19-20 August, the world-class competition will bring the best of NZ’s barista class together. The winner will represent New Zealand in Seoul, South Korea later this year at the World Barista Championship.

To prepare for the competition, Frank worked closely with Red Rabbit to refine the roasting profile to suit the unique flavour profiles he selected for his signature beverage. The process involved a series of fruit and tea tastings, in which Frank took note of both flavours and aromas.

“The reason I entered the barista competition is to challenge myself and bring the best level of competitiveness and skill to the competition. And, instead of just giving it to the judges, I want to bring it back to our customers at the café, so they can experience the highest quality coffee beverage as well.”

Frank opened his café in 2015 to bring his love for quality coffee to The Terrace in Wellington where his namesake café is located. Serving Auckland-based Red Rabbit coffee beans, Frank’s is an anomaly amidst a city run by the likes of Flight and Supreme.
