West End star signed for Sister Act

West End star signed for Sister Act

After 25 years performing on stages in London's West End, musical theatre star Matthew Cutts makes a triumphant return home to New Zealand for the heavenly stage spectacular SISTER ACT, THE MUSICAL.

Inspired by the Whoopi Goldberg smash-hit movie, SISTER ACT, THE MUSICAL opens at the ASB Waterfront Theatre on 25 November and runs for a strictly limited season.

Cutts returns to New Zealand from an illustrious career on one of the world's most prestigious stages, having featured in some of the biggest musical theatre productions ever.

His credits include Cats, Miss Saigon, Starlight Express, Jersey Boys, Mamma Mia, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Grease, Saturday Night Fever, Victor/Victoria, and Dogfight to name a few. Cutts has also worked extensively as a soloist for large corporate events and galas across Europe.

The last time Cutts stood on an Auckland stage, he was waiting for his School C results and the Northern Motorway finished at Sunset Road, and he "can't bloody wait!"

Cutts will play Deloris' gangster boyfriend and night club owner Curtis Shank -- a very smooth and calculating shady sort.

When Deloris decides to break up with Shank, she witnesses him and his gang of thugs shoot someone they believe has squealed about them to the cops.

Horrified, Deloris runs away and Shankorders his men to get her and bring her back. Deloris runs to a police station and tells the desk chief, Eddie, about what happened. The two recognize each other as old friends from school with Deloris calling him Sweaty Eddie. Eddie decides that Deloris needs to go into the witness protection program and sends her to the place he believes Shank will never find her - a convent called The Holy Order of the Little Sisters of Our Mother of Perpetual Faith.

Cutts joins an outstanding cast for this “feel-amazing” musical comedy that features all new original music by TONY and 8-time Oscar winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin).

“We are thrilled to have secured Matthew for this role,” says director David Adkins. “New Zealand is blessed to have such immense talent and it is wonderful when you get an artist of this calibre wanting to bring the experience of an international stage home.”

SISTER ACT, THE MUSICAL has all the glamour and energy that you should expect from a Broadway blockbuster – thrilling scenery, gorgeous costumes, snappy one-liners and heart-pumping dance numbers.

Filled with powerful gospel music, outrageous dancing and a truly moving story, SISTER ACT, THE MUSICAL will leave audiences breathless. A sparkling tribute to the universal power of friendship, SISTER ACT, THE MUSICAL is reason to REJOICE!
