Whitianga Community Waka Ama Announces New Logo

Whitianga Community Waka Ama are announcing their eagerly awaited new logo.

The Club has grown to over 20 members in the time since it was established 2 years ago and has started up two local waka ama events to help bring people to the local area, creating a need for a logo that represents the Whitianga Community Waka Ama Club’s values.

With several outstanding entries received, it was an exciting opportunity for members to vote for a winning logo at the recent AGM. They are thrilled with the winning design.

David Bayer had the winning entry in the "Design a Logo" competition, with a prize of $200 and a personal paddle around Centre Island. Having recently moved to Whitianga David has started a graphic design business, David Bayer Designs, www.davidbayerdesigns.com

David says: “I’m glad I was able to help support a local community group with the creation of their new logo. The design I have created is a logo that is easy to recognise, reproduce and remember. While illustrating the energy of the sport, and the water on which the Waka Ama Club paddle on. The koru extending up into the arm represents the power and connection between the paddler and ocean and the black curved shape over and behind the paddler represents the community and club support.”

Vice-President Miriam Dawson agrees: “The logo perfectly reflected our Club’s values. We are very lucky to have the support of the community, and particularly Whitianga Social Services to be able to grow our club. This logo is an important part of our journey and we are very thankful for all the wonderful entries we received and the time and energy David has clearly put into his winning entry.
