Wellington Comedy Webseries : Quality Kiwi Comedy Content

Wellington Comedy Webseries

Quality Kiwi Comedy Content

Producers of the web series, Wellington Mic Drop, are getting ready to film the second season, showcasing even more of the capital’s funny men and women.

Ben Powdrell and Brad Zimmerman created Wellington Mic Drop to offer Wellington-based comedians an opportunity to broaden their exposure to a wider audience. Before Mic Drop, this increased exposure was something only available to comics who either lived or spent a lot of their time in Auckland.

The amount of regular shows in the capital and the amount of performers have grown exponentially, and this year three out of the five Billy T Award nominees were from Wellington. It’s safe to say that Wellington comedy has never been stronger than it is today.

Powdrell and Zimmerman hope that their series and the increased fanbase it generates will help to make the local comedy scene even stronger, while offering New Zealand viewers some more variety and local content on their screens.

The first season of Wellington Mic Drop was filmed in November 2016, and the episodes were released during the first half of 2017, to a receptive and satisfied audience of viewers around the country.

There is currently a crowdfunding campaign running on Boosted.org.nz, to assist with the production costs of filming the second season.

The second season of the series has a whopping 18 comics, including Cohen Holloway (What We Do in the Shadows, Boy, Hunt for the Wilderpeople), Benjamin Crellin (TV3’s Comedy Gala), Neil Thornton (TV3’s After Hours), and many more.
