Roza of Smyrna Opens Greek Film Festival

Box Office Smash Hit Roza of Smyrna Opens Greek Film Festival

The Delphi Bank 24th Green Film Festival today announced the Australian premiere of Greek box office smash hit Roza of Smyrna will kick off the 12 day Festival (October 10 – 22, 2017) at Palace Cinemas, Norton Street on Tuesday 10 October, 2017.

Tickets are now sale via www.palacecinemas.com.au or 02 9361 5398.

Directed by Greek filmmaker George Kordellas, the romantic drama has earnt acclaim as the Greco-Turkish Romeo and Juliet, and features the first cinematic starring role of celebrated theatre actress Lida Protopsalti in her 66 year career.

“We are thrilled to open the Festival with Kordellas’ debut feature. Roza of Smyrna is an incredible film exploring the intricacies of romance, while delivering crucial commentary on turbulent Greek-Turkish relations in the twentieth century,” said Festival Chair, Nia Karteris.

Based on Yiannis Yiannelis-Theodosiadis’ novel Ismail and Roza, the film follows an art collector as he unravels a story of star-crossed lovers from almost a century ago, with no leads except an old photograph, a blood stained wedding dress, and a letter sewn into its hem.

Stay tuned for the full line-up of films screening at the Festival, to be announced soon.

For 23 years, the Greek Film Festival has presented some of the best Greek cinema to Australian audiences. Prepare to fall in love with stories from and about Greece’s rich and ancient culture and peoples, all over again.
