Judd Tops MRF Top-Five Lock Out at Hanmer
Judd tops MRF top-five lock out at Hanmer
MRF Tyres have produced their best New Zealand result to date, locking out the top five spots in tricky conditions at the Royce Watson Memorial Hanmer Rally, held over the weekend.
Josh Marston’s Holden Barina AP4+ set the early pace to lead the field by almost 20 seconds, before clutch problems would see him slip down the field. That would allow Jeff Judd to hit the front, securing a lead he would not relinquish.
A huge battle for second place between Michael Tall’s Mitsubishi Mirage and Dylan Turner’s Audi S1 AP4 would go in Turner’s favour, while Deane Buist took fourth in a Ford Escort, just six tenths ahead of a recovering Marston, completing the top-five lock out for MRF drivers.
As well as outright success, MRF drivers tasted success across most classes as well. Judd and Buist won classes D (Open four-wheel drive) & C (1600cc & over two-wheel drive) respectively, while Steve Cattermole took victory in Class B (1301-1600cc two-wheel drive) in his Datsun 1200. Class E for Pre-’96 Four-wheel drive cars saw Garet Thomas take victory in his Mitsubishi Evo ahead of the Subaru Legacy of Tony Gosling’s Subaru Legacy, both running MRF Tyres.
“The MRF Tyres are really working well in New Zealand conditions and the results are really starting to come,” says Deane Buist of Palmside New Zealand Ltd, the New Zealand distributor of MRF Tyres. “Conditions were tricky at Hanmer over the weekend with plenty of rain in the build up to the event, but the tyres stood up incredibly well.”
