George FM’S Inaugural Georgie Awards Celebrate the Best in New Zealand

Aotearoa’s hottest artists, DJs, fashionistas and influencers celebrated the best of New Zealand’s music and lifestyle at the first annual Georgie Awards last night in Auckland.

Inaugural winners of the Georgie trophy included Kiwi international pop superstar Lorde, whose Montell2099 & SACHI remix of Greenlight took out the award for BurgerFuel Banger of the Year; iconic streetwear label Huffer was named Fashion Quarterly’s Hottest NZ Designer; and soulful House and Dance duo Nice ‘n’ Urlich’s 21-year partnership was honoured with the George FM Lifetime Achievement Award.

Nominees were chosen after a three-week submission period and Georgie Award winners were selected by public vote. The inaugural Georgie Award winners are:

Cheers to the Beverage of the Year: Long White Vodka
Zestel Energy Gum Venue of the Year: Impala, Auckland
Fashion Quarterly's Hottest NZ Designer: Huffer
Ben & Jerry's International Friends of George Award: Alison Wonderland
Crafters Union Breakthrough Artist of the year: Chores
Miss FQ's Strongest Social Media Game: Johnny Danger
Best Fest - Event or Festival: Rhythm & Vines
Paperboy's Sweetest Eats: Burger Fuel chips with the Famous Aioli
George FM Lifetime Achievement Award: Nice 'N' Urlich
Good George Life Coach Moment of the Year: Emirates Team New Zealand (for flipping their boat then bloody winning!)
BurgerFuel's Tastiest Banger of the Year: Lorde - Green Light (Montell2099 & SACHI Remix)
Singapore Airlines International Achievement Award: Fat Freddy's Drop
Ultimate Ears Best DJ: Dan Aux
Jägermeister Artist of the Year: Sachi

The event, hosted by George FM Breakfast’s Kara Rickard and Tammy Davis, was held at Auckland’s Galatos Bar and included live performances from Kings, Theia, Baynk ft Nika as well as DJ sets from Dan Aux, General Lee, Jay Bulletproof, Benny Boy, Erika Amoore, Bavhu, Hamish & Rangi, Ultan Burke, Sammie Whitaker.
