The Block NZ Celebrities at Nelson Home & Garden Show

The Block NZ Celebrities at Nelson Home & Garden Show

Each year the Nelson Home & Garden Show is packed with expert advice, show-only bargains and innovation - but this year it has also attracted several television celebrities.

The annual event opens on Friday 29 September at Saxton Stadium in Stoke and will run for three days. Over 180 exhibitors are preparing to showcase the latest in building, renovating and home improvement. Visitors will be treated to previews of what’s new in landscaping and gardening, outdoor furniture, kitchens, bathrooms, solar energy, building, renovating and much more.

Event organiser, Josh Shanley, said “We are very excited to have several home improvement celebrities at the show this year. Cat and Jeremy, fan favourites from the Villa Wars series of The Block NZ, will be there over the weekend. Cat will judge an interior design competition on the Saturday and, along with Jeremy, will run a free ‘Ask an Expert’ discussion at 12.30 pm on ‘The Block NZ Inside Story’. They will both be joined by Resident Builder, Peter Wolfkamp for the talk at the same time on Sunday. The show will be packed with other industry professionals too, so we really encourage people to bring along their plans, photos and ideas and to make the most of all the on-site expertise.”

The show is the hub for home innovations and several will be using it to make their debut. The WaterSaver is one innovation that is especially well-timed for the warmer weather. It prevents the loss of valuable tank water by automatically cutting power to a pressure pump if it has run for more than 30 uninterrupted minutes. The simple plug and play device offers peace of mind for water tank owners and those without mains water supply. Large or small, there will be many other clever home improvement products on display at the show too.

One lucky visitor stands to win the show prize, a $10,000 full garden and landscape makeover from Wholesale Landscapes. This comprises a consultation process with landscape architects and designers, site clearance, soft and hard landscaping, planting of native trees and shrubs, plus a vegetable garden designed by author and garden guru Bill Brett. Also part of the show prize is a $250 Resene voucher which can be spent on paint, wallpaper and/or curtains. The winner will be drawn by The Hits Nelson at 1 pm on Saturday 7 October at the Wholesale Landscapes retail centre at 55 Saxton Rd, Stoke. Show-goers need only enter their details at the show entrance for the chance to win.

Other draws and competitions will add to the onsite buzz. Advanced Electrical will be running one that should not be missed, where anyone who signs up for a quote on their new build or renovation plans, stands to win over $8,000 worth of installed smart home technology.

A food, art and New Zealand-made aisle will treat show-goers to scented oils, mosaic art, award-winning handmade cheese, Gelato ice creams and sorbets, smoked seasonings and much more. There will also be free daily Q&A sessions from the experts on landscaping, gardening, kitchens and solar energy. Resene will provide family fun and entertainment with Paint-a-Pot for kids and Paint-a-Home for adults from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Saturday and Sunday.
