Macdonald Scores Another Round Win

Invercargill racing driver Liam MacDonald has scored another round win in Class 2 of the BNT V8’s Championship at Bruce McLaren Motorsport Park in Taupo this weekend.

To do so he had to overcome a fuel problem in the opening race of the round on Saturday which had dropped him down the order late in the race. MacDonald bounced back the following day to record a win on Sunday morning before a second place in the third and final race of the round later in the day.

The weekend began well when the young Southlander took pole position in the Speedy Signs Ford Falcon on Saturday from Nick Farrier of Pukekohe and Matt Podjrsky from Inglewood. He then led the first race until three laps from home when the fuel issue intervened, slowing the Falcon and dropping him to 4th place at the chequered flag. Chelsea Herbert went on to take her maiden win in the race.

MacDonald overcame his woes on Sunday morning to win from Farrier and Aucklander Brock Timperley before going on to take second behind Timperley in the third and final race. The results gave him the round win and extended his lead in the championship.

“It was great to overcome the problems we had on Saturday and come back and win the round,” said MacDonald who had opened the defence of his title with a clean sweep and a round win at Pukekohe last month.

The next round of the championship is at Mike Pero Motorsport Park at Ruapuna in Christchurch from 12-14 January 2018 followed by Teretonga Park, Liam’s home circuit, a week later. “I am looking forward to coming home with the Speedy Signs Falcon to the South Island circuits I know well,” said Liam after he had wrapped up the Taupo round win.

MacDonald’s campaign in the 2017/2018 BNT V8’s Championship is supported by Speedy Signs, EmbroidMe, Southern Automobiles, Castrol NZ, GT Radial NZ, Million Dollar Cruise Queenstown, Marsh Motorsport, Classic Car Warehouse Invercargill, Advanti Racing and YHI NZ, Ideal Electrical, BNT NZ, Auto Windscreen Replacement Ltd, Southern Bolts & Fasteners, Auto Fab, Ralston Sheetmetal, Invercargill; NAC Insurance, CS Auto Refinishing, Invercargill, DAL Photographics, Discount Tyres Invercargill and a Sport Scholarship with the Community Trust of Southland.

Among such gifted contemporaries as Bill Hammond, Tony de la Tour, and printmaker Jason Grieg, Fomison distinguished himself as highly idiosyncratic, and could have become wealthy, had not his demons prevented him from investing his income wisely.
