PRESS RELEASE: FEBRUARY 2018

'Sully O'Sullivan: Kiwi Comic in Exile'

“a blast of hilarity”

Manchester Evening News (UK)

In conjunction with A Rush of Laughter Comedy Management (UK)

NZ Fringe, March 21st – 24th, 19:00 (60mins)
The Fringe Bar, 26-32 Allen St, Wellington

For the first time in years Sully O'Sullivan admits he's nervous.

But after 230 shows up and down the British Isles last year, what is it about just 4 shows in little old Wellington that could possibly give this comedian a case of stage fright?

“Stand-up comedy has less of a 4th wall than almost any other form of performance, but on the road there's at least the illusion of anonymity; you arrive in a town, you perform, you leave. That illusion goes out the window when you went to high school less than 4km from the venue.”

So what's the show about?

“The show's about exactly what I am, a Kiwi comic performing overseas. It's about what we find funny, what they find funny, and occasionally what they really really don't find funny. I learnt that the hard way.”

So why does a 'hometown boy' have a stand-up show listed in the NZ Fringe under U.K.?
“There's no doubt I'm from Wellington, this is where I grew up, even where I first stepped onto a stage, but after 13 years on the international comedy circuit, performing everywhere from Seattle to the Sultanate of Oman, even I have to accept the 'comedian' is now based on the other side of the world.”
