Magic players part of NZ Commonwealth Games team
The New Zealand Olympic Committee in conjunction with Netball New Zealand announced the New Zealand Netball team to compete at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, earlier today. The two WBOP Magic team players selected as part of that squad are Samantha Sinclair and Kelly Jury.
New Zealand Olympic Committee CEO Kereyn Smith said that she was delighted to welcome the players to the team for Gold Coast 2018.
“Netball is one of the highlights of the Commonwealth Games and we know New Zealanders will be right behind the players named today,” she said.

WBOP MAGIC Head Coach, Margaret Forsyth said we are very excited about Sam and Kelly’s inclusion in the Silver Ferns Commonweath Games squad. Both have grown so much as international netballers and we know that they will continue to play with great skill, tenacity and pride.
“Sam’s energy and grit in the midcourt and Kelly’s presence at goalkeeper compliment the skills of our world ranked national team. We at Magic wish them and the SFs a successful CG campaign,” says Forsyth.
The team’s immediate focus will be
three training camps in the build-up to the series against
Jamaica, Malawi and Fiji for the Taini Jamison Trophy in
Auckland from March 21-24.

“This is terrific
recognition for both athletes, as they have made significant
progress over the past 12 months. I’m sure everyone across
the Waikato Bay of Plenty Zone and Magic supporters will
join us in wishing them and the whole Silver Ferns squad the
best of luck in the Gold Coast,” he said.
The naming takes the total number of athletes selected to the New Zealand Commonwealth Games team to 111.
