The global television star and award-winning magician DYNAMO, made a very special flying visit to New Zealand last week to personally launch his first ever tour here. Dynamo spent the entire week wowing and charming media and public alike, leaving them equal parts astounded and perplexed by his jaw-dropping magic that was THE water-cooler topic of the day.

Taking his magic to the streets of Auckland and Christchurch, Dynamo baffled surprised fans and passers-by with his stunning powers, before making their day even more memorable by happily posing for selfies with everyone.

“Dynamo is brilliant! I was so lucky to meet him. I watched very closely as I played his assistant, and I’m still scratching my head! You have to see this show, take the family. He is simply amazing!”
– Mike Puru, NZ media personality

"THE UNDISPUTED KING OF MAGIC" – THE TIMES

WATCH DYNAMO'S STUNNING SIZZLE REEL HERE - NOT TO BE MISSED!

The ‘SEEING IS BELIEVING’ Live New Zealand Tour delivers its first shows on Friday 20th July, with a matinee performance on Saturday 21st July, at Horncastle Arena in Christchurch. The tour then heads to Auckland’s Spark Arena on Thursday 26th July, and now also includes this newly announced matinee performance on Saturday 28th July at 3pm.

Dynamo, whose real name is Steven Frayne, became a superstar of TV when his multiple award-winning television series ‘Magician Impossible’ quickly established him as one of the world’s most popular and best loved magicians. ‘Magician Impossible’ aired in over 180 territories worldwide, reaching over 400 million cumulative viewers globally.

Here in New Zealand, the first series topped the audience viewing figures for 2013 – our #1 most watched show on TV. Subsequent shows and series had audience figures through the roof with Dynamo having one of the most popular shows in New Zealand television history.

With his ‘SEEING IS BELIEVING’ Live Tour, Dynamo has taken his magic to unprecedented heights, performing 127 shows in over 10 countries to 600,000+ magic fans across the continents. This includes being the first magician in history to headline the legendary O2 Arena in London - not once, but three times! This will be the first time the ‘SEEING IS BELIEVING’ Live tour has been to New Zealand.

But despite his undeniable success and ever expanding trophy cabinet, Dynamo remains a humble student of the magical arts, spending most of his time in isolation, honing the skills and ideas necessary to amaze and enthrall his audiences. In a recent interview, Dynamo said “I honestly believe people need magic in their lives as it brings a sense of hope and wonder that is often lost in the day to day.”

New Zealand fans will now have their chance to add a bit of that magic into their lives when Dynamo brings his ‘SEEING IS BELIEVING’ Live Tour to our shores in 2018.

TICKETS TO ALL SHOWS GO ON SALE 10AM TODAY, MONDAY 16 APRIL!

Joseph Cederwall Review: NZSO Plays Zappa

The first of the NZSO’s Shed Series concerts at the more informal and intimate space of Wellington's Shed 6 last Friday night featured music composed by, or with a connection to Frank Zappa. Zappa, a psychedelic rock legend, activist and popular culture figure and all round colourful character, was an excellent choice for the concert’s theme of innovation. More>>

Joe Cederwall Review: WOMAD 2018 - Harmony of Difference (part 1)

A friend described WOMAD as his “favourite white middle class celebration of diversity.” There is certainly an echo of truth to this as the crowd is still largely white and middle class, but this WOMAD for me represented that a better world is possible ... More>>

Howard Davis Review: A Bigger Splash - Te Papa Celebrates Twenty Years

Considering the available resources, this is a decidedly hit-and-miss affair, mainly due to some highly questionable curatorial decisions. In their overweening wish to "push boundaries," Charlotte Davy and Megan Tamati-Quennell have made a number of serious miscalculations by ignoring a basic rule - keep it simple. More>>
