Rd 5 SAS Fox Memorial Premiership preview

The Roope Rooster will go on the line this weekend, as Northcote head across to Walker Park, looking to wrestle control of the Auckland league’s challenge trophy.

The Pirates sit undefeated as joint-leaders of the SAS Fox Memorial Premiership, while last week Northcote picked up their second victory of the year, recovering from a 10-0 deficit late in the match to down Papakura 16-10 at Birkenhead War Memorial.

The Pirates v Tigers match will serve as the Round 5 first division livestreamed match, with coverage from 2pm and kick-off at 2.30pm.

Elsewhere, top-of-the-table Howick host third-placed Glenora, a week on from claiming the scalp of Mt Albert to keep their perfect record intact, while out south Mangere East take on Otahuhu.

Mt Albert and Richmond meet in a central Auckland derby, in a game which was originally set down to be livestreamed, before a change of venue was forced due to ground works at Fowlds Park.

Both Papakura and Marist will be looking for their first victory of the year when they play at Prince Edward Park.

Rd 3 Crown Lift Trucks Sharman Cup preview
A clash of two Crown Lift Trucks Sharman Cup big guns serves as the second division’s livestreamed match in Round 3, with 2017 play-off sides Otara and Bay Roskill to do battle.

The Vikings made it two from two last week, powering past the Northern Brothers 40-4, while Otara felt the full wrath of Ellerslie in a 30-10 defeat.

The match will be played at Walker Park, serving as the curtain-raiser to the Roope Rooster challenge between Pt Chevalier and Northcote, with coverage of the Sharman clash kicking off at noon and the game starting at 12.20pm.

Manurewa and Ellerslie will both go in search of their second win of the season when they meet at Mountfort Park, while Ponsonby take on Papatoetoe in central Auckland.

New Lynn look to remain undefeated when they play Mt Wellington, while out in Tuakau, Premiership newcomers the Franklin Storm play the Hibiscus Coast.

Rd 3 Farrelly Photos Women’s competition (grading) preview
Undefeated Otahuhu are set for their biggest test of the Farrelly Photos Women’s competition so far, when they come up against last year’s runners-up, Richmond, this Sunday at Bert Henham Park.

After powering past Mangere East and Ponsonby in the opening fortnight, the representative-laden Otahuhu side will face a Richmond outfit who will be hurting from a 36-0 shutout at the hands of defending champions Manurewa last week.

In other games, south Auckland teams Mangere East and Manukau will clash at Walter Massey Park, both eyeing their first points of the year, while Ponsonby travel away to take on a Te Atatu side who recorded a big win last up.

Waitemata and Manurewa finish the Round 3 action when they play at Ranui Domain, with the Rusty Matua-coached Manurewa side yet to concede a single point in 160 minutes of football.
