SAS College Rugby League kicks off

May 9, 2018

The quest to become kings of Auckland secondary school rugby league begins this Wednesday, with the kick-off of 2018 SAS College Rugby League competitions.

Defending champions St Paul’s College head a 12-strong Premier competition, joined by fellow heavyweights Kelston Boys’ High School and Mt Albert Grammar.

Back after a year out of the competition are former New Zealand champions Otahuhu College - a school who in recent years have brought through a number of NRL players - while reigning national champions Southern Cross Campus and rugby union powerhouse, Wesley College, will once again take part.

In a sign of the growing depth of Auckland league at secondary school level, the Senior A (development) competition will see eight schools field teams.

The addition of Green Bay High School and the Hibiscus Coast’s Whangaparaoa College, spreads the geographical reach of the competition, while St Paul’s, Manurewa and Southern Cross will enter teams in the Senior A competition as well as the Premier division.

The U15 Nine-aside competition will be contested by nine teams.
