The Great DIY BurlesKiwi 2018!

In the best tradition of Kiwi ingenuity and the #8 wire mentality, proving you can bring fabulousness to the stage on a budget, DIY BurlesKiwi is the kind of Burlesque show that speaks to the New Zealand psyche.
Since its first year in 2015, DIY BurlesKiwi has attracted competitors from all over New Zealand, with winners Wellington, Christchurch and Hamilton. Where will the 2018 winners be from?

Burlesque has a reputation for corsets and feather fans. But not at DIY where we are out to show that it’s about charisma not corsets and fun not feathers!
With only $100 for solos and $175 for duos to spend on everything they put on their bodies plus props, the contestants show impressive creativity. Last year’s winner Pixie Twist spent just $52 on her act and the very same act had her win the Queen of the New Zealand Burlesque Festival 2017. Not bad for a headpiece made from a pool noodle!

The Great DIY BurlesKiwi winners receive a one-off designer #8 wire crown, a sash made from an upcycled Swanndri and a prize package provided by sponsors.
