Auckland to celebrate Women in League

Auckland to celebrate Women in League
June 27, 2018

Ten Auckland clubs will be involved in the 2018 Farrelly Photos Women in League Day, set down for Sunday, July 8. (Photos attached).

Six matches will be played across the day at Cornwall Park in Auckland, involving teams from the girls’ U15 grade and Farrelly Photos Women’s Premiership and Pennant (second tier) competitions.

The Otahuhu U15 v Manurewa U15 and Mt Albert v Richmond matches on the day will also be streamed live and free on aucklandleague.co.nz.

Auckland Rugby League general manager Greg Whaiapu said it was a key local event, in what has been a significant year for the women’s game.

“We are really pleased to be able to stage this day, which is all about recognising and celebrating female involvement in our game, whether that be as a player, coach, match official, or administrator,” Whaiapu said.

“This year we have seen some big changes locally, with the introduction of an U13 girls’ grade which has enabled females to play club league from mini/mods through to senior women’s level in Auckland, while the inclusion of a Vodafone Warriors team in the new NRL Women’s Premiership has created a whole new pathway for players here.”

The Farrelly Photos Women in League day will also see involvement from a large portion of the female match officials who are active members of the Auckland Rugby League Referees’ Association.
